Common questions

What counts as a vacant property?

Most carriers treat a home, building, or unit as vacant once it has been empty of normal occupants for a set period, often 30 to 60 days. Vacant land is generally treated as vacant from the start, since no one lives there.

Can I get insurance for vacant land that I rent out?

Yes. Vacant land insurance can apply even when you rent the land to someone else for their own purpose, such as farming, grazing animals, or hosting sports events. Tell us about the arrangement on the quote form so it can be factored in.

Do I have to choose property coverage, or can I get general liability only?

You can choose either. General liability only covers third-party injury and property damage claims. If you also want the building and contents covered, choose the general liability plus property package option.

Why do you ask for a mailing address if the property is vacant?

Since no one lives at a vacant property, we need a separate mailing address so you can receive policy documents, billing, and other correspondence.

Can a property manager be added to my policy?

Often, yes. If a property manager oversees the vacant property, they can frequently be named as an additional insured. Tell us on the quote form and provide their full name and address.
